AID MENTAL HEALTH WITH NUTRITION?

While we tend to consider healthy diet as a basic parameter for physical health, we should not overlook the fact that our mental power needs appropriate nutrition, too. As indicated in this blog, scientifically verified. Read on to learn about details.  

THE PHILOSOPHY BEHIND

As you know from our previous publications and seminars, healthy diet – additional to bodily exercise is a basic factor of our health.
 
At least, physical health stands in the forefront, although it is not understood completely favorable, when industrially processed and lack of plant-based diet is included.  
 
More than that. Healthy diet is supporting not only our physical being, it also is responsible for our mental health.
 
Accordingly, we need to ask if – and which – diet is equally supporting also our mental power. I.e., which

TYPES OF DIET FOR MENTALITY – SCENTIFICALLY VERIFIED

While there is no type of diet for mental health specifically, some do have great impact on mentality as well. Like

  • Mediterranean diet
 
I.e., a type of diet which is basically used in the Mediterranean area of Europe.
 
Not only. It is also favored by the Dietary Guidelines for Americans as well as by international research at, inter alia, the

   &
- Marseille University in Marseille, France
to cut down symptoms of depression.
 
With special reference to nutrition in this type of diet such as, inter alia,

- whole grains
- many fruits/vegetables
- cereals
- beans/pulses
​- olive oil
- moderate-low dairy/red meat/eggs/wine
- fish
- poultry
- nuts/seeds
- potatoes  

Where we find specifically compounds such as

- vitamin D
- s-adenosylmethionine
- omega-3 fatty acids
- methylfolate

  • Polyphenols
 
Are antioxidant and anti-inflammatory plant compounds to be found in (many) fruits/vegetables fight depression as well and also anxiety.

  • Low calorie diet

Not to be mixed up with ‘Western diet’ familiar to most of us, because of implications unhealthy physically and mentally. Such as industrially processed food/fried food/sugary products/refined carbohydrates9like pasta/white bread).
