FOOD WITH SATURATED FAT: GOOD OR BAD?

6/2/2024

Our health and longevity depend on many dietary implications in terms of quality. But not all nutritional constituents are well advised in terms of quantity. Saturated fat being no exception. As it can e.g., increase heart disease and ‘bad’ LDL cholesterol. Read on to learn about details.

THE PHILOSOPHY BEHIND

As you know latest from our previous publications and seminars, our health, besides physical activity, depends on healthy diet. In terms of many natural nutrients like vitamins, minerals, fiber, antioxidants, and many others. Unfortunately yet, you can’t pick those in individual shape, but as part of complexity, together with other constituents.

One of these constituents are saturated fats. Dairy and meat being the basic sources of saturated fat. Good or bad?

According to comprehensive international scientific findings, low saturated fat consumption cuts down the risk of heart disease.

FOODS WITH MORE/LESS SATURATED FAT – SCIENTIFICALLY VERIFIED

For more details, let’s pick some foods, containing saturated fats in certain amounts:

* Beef

Other than grain-fed cattle, organic and grass-fed types have less saturated fat in their meat but more omega-3 fatty acids which benefits heart health.

According to research at, inter alia,

 in the UK at
- University of Reading in Rading

   &
- Newcastle University in Newcastle-upon-Tyne

* Processed meat

Such as hot dogs/sausage/bacon

This type of meat with its saturated fat not only risks heat disease and cardiovascular disease in general, but also tends to raise blood pressure because of the content of sodium.

According to research at, inter alia,

- The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition
   &
- Boston Children’s Hospital
in Boston, MA.

On the other hand,

* Yogurt

While there are different types of yogurt on the market between milk-free, low fat and and full-fat yogurt on the market, the lower the fat, the better for health.

As based on research
In the UK at
- University of Cambridge in Cambridge
- University of Bristol in Bristol
- University of Oxford in Oxford
- Imperial College London in London
In Denmark at
- University of Copenhagen in Copenhagen
- Technical University of Denmark in Kongens Lyngby
- Aarhus University in Aarhus
In Sweden at
- University in Umea
- Lund University in Malmoe
In France at
- International Agency for Research on Cancer/World Health Organization (WHO) in Lyon
- Universite Paris-Saclay in Villejuif
As well at
University Medical Center Uttrecht in Utrecht, The Netherlands Universidad de Granada in Granada, Spain Westlake University in Hangzhou, China Federico II University in Naples, Italy Tromsoe University in Tromsoe, Norway University of Potsdam in Nuthetal, Germany
Similar situation comes with

*
Cheese

(like cheddar cheese) when it comes to heart disease. Although 1 ounce of cheese may contain 5 grams of saturated fat.

And in this case, comes with some danger for your heart disease.

As based on same research scale as in case of yogurt. Plus Aston University in Birmingham, UK.

Also

* Butter

With its content of saturated fat is associated with the risk of cardiovascular disease.

More than that. Additionally to vast research pattern indicated above, saturated fat in butter may also increase LDL (‘bad’) cholesterol. According to Aston University in Birmingham, UK.

However, unlike butter,

* Coconut oil

does not increase ‘bad’ LDL cholesterol.

Still, according to research in the UK at, inter alia,
- University of Cambridge in Cambridge
    &

- Aston University in Birmingham it is recommended to cut down on saturated fat by those who are basically supposed to. Coconut oil being no exception.

IN A NUTSHELL

Our health and longevity depend on many dietary implications in terms of quality. But not all nutritional constituents are well advised in terms of quantity. Saturated fat being no exception. As it can e.g., increase heart disease and ‘bad’ LDL cholesterol.
