Herbal Medicine Cabinet

There are herbs you should have at hand as remedies for discomforts like cough & cold, headache & stomach ache, sleeplessness, irritation, and others.

Please always use herbs with caution. There may be intolerance and/or drug interactions to be considered.

For cold: Echinacea


This herb has been well researched. Use the whole herb and not an extract. Brew a tea, drink it hot or cold. You may sweeten it.

For headaches & light fever:
White Willow Bark

For stomach problems: Peppermint

White Willow Bark is the original source of salicylic acid, Asprin and other pain medication is made of, and has been used for pain and fever for thousands of years.
Peppermint is traditionally used to help with all kinds of digestive problems, to soothe an irritated bowel. Especially used to calm an upset stomach.

Herbs for cough & cold:
Thyme & Eucalyptus

Herbs for sleep:
Lemon Balm & Chamomile

Fatigue - loss of energy:
Yerba Mate

Thyme volatile oil is strongly antiseptic. It is traditionally used as a remedy (tea) for throat and chest infections such as bronchitis.
Native to Australia, Eucalyptus is grown and used all over the world. Traditionally used by Aboriginals as a remedy for infections and fever. Research suggests Eucalyptus as powerful antiseptic, relieving coughs and colds, sore throats, and other infections.

Lemon Balm has a calming effect on the central nerve system and is a relaxing tonic for anxiety, restlessness, and irritability. Chamomile has relaxant actions.
Popular in parts of South America, the leaves and twigs of the Yerba Mate plant are dried, steeped in hot water to make an herbal tea (contains caffeine). Traditionally used to relieve fatigue and help treat  headaches. Research suggests Yerba Mate to boost energy, promote weight loss, ease depression, and is antioxidant. Generally recognized as safe in accordance with FDA Gras List.
