ANAL CANCER - THE SKYROCKETING DEATH

THE PHILOSOPHY BEHIND

When we talk about cancer, which can happen all over our body with no exception, we usually think about those types of this dreadful illness which come to our mind primarily. Such as, e.g., brain/breast/lung/prostate/etc. cancer on top of the chronic illness chart in our industrialized society. Overlooking those forms of cancer we almost never hear about, despite of their skyrocketing statistical value. One of those is anal cancer with a mortality rate clandestinely doubling in last few years.

ANAL CANCER’S FUTURE - SCIENTIFICALLY ELABORATED

Usually transmitted sexually, anal cancer is usually kicked off by the human papilloma virus (HPV) we know from other forms of cancer like cervical and oral cancer.
 
Only recently research at the University of Texas in Houston shed more light  at this squamous cell carcinoma of the anus. Caused in most cases by HPV virus over a time of some 15 years - preventable. And about which ¾ of our adult population has never heard about. Although almost 70,000 cases of anal cancer had developed between in first 15 years of the 20th century alone – with more than 10,000 deaths involved for adults in the sixties. With an annual increase of some 3%, thus being one of the fastest growing types of cancer.
 
This is especially the case in our black community born in the mid-1980s and beyond, while the risk of anal cancer incidence has doubled in white adults born after 1960.
