ARE TATTOOS DANGEROUS FOR HEALTH?

Any synthetic-chemical substance on or in your body, basically, leads to negative consequences. Tattoo inks being no exception. Read on to learn more…

QUESTION AT STAKE

Carmen Mendoza from San Antonio, TX, asks:

Most of my friends are tattooed, thus supporting their beauty and ID. Any objections if I do the same?

Dr. Fritz:

No objection to support your beauty and ID not only mentally but also externally. E.g., by individual hairdo, cosmetics, clothing, etc.

However, although tattooing has become a hype in last 2 decades with some 30% of the U.S. population involved, demonstrating your self-esteem by tattoos is problematic – problematic for your health. Why and how?

THE PHILOSOPHY BEHIND

Tattooing means puncturing of the skin with a needle around 100 times per second to get a synthetic-chemical ink 1.5 to 2 millimeters below surface, bypassing the outer layer. In order to give the ink a chance staying in your skin permanently, while the outer layer of your skin (epidermis) is renewed steadily.

Since nerves and blood vessels are located in the lower layer of the skin, that’s why tattooed skin hurts and tends to bleed as a natural defense against injury.

Basically, the ink stays in your skin locally, but some reaches your lymph nodes and organs farther away, inter alia the liver. Especially in those cases, the problem is that this ‘invasive’ substance is not biologic and, accordingly, is not produced to be used in your body. Rather, it is in line with synthetic-chemical substances usually used for car paint or printing industries.

MEDICAL VALIDATION

Some of these substances contain carcinogens and accordingly, have not been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to be used in humans.

Also, a urologist near Munich in Germany found recently a substance like this in the bladder of a patient. Long way to go...?

CONCLUSION

As you have learned from my Sunday Blogs again and again, your body is a natural phenomenon based on natural laws. That’s why any synthetic substance subcutaneous in your body, basically, leads to negative consequences for your health. Synthetic-chemical tattoo inks being no exception.
