To relieve chronic pain, each year 250 million prescriptions for opioids are issued in the U.S. Without decreasing chronic pain incidences, but 25,000 premature deaths as a consequence instead. Learn about natural and safe alternatives for chronic pain relief in this blog. Carlotta Fenz from Oak Brook, IL, asks:
Suffering chronic pain for quite some while, my healthcare provider prescribes opioids. Unfortunately, it did not solve the problem yet. Is there anything better? Dr. Fritz: When asking if there is anything better than opioids for pain relief, the question should better be: is there anything worse? The philosophy behind: Chronic pain (pain lasting more than 3 months) is not an ailment or disease, but rather a basic symptom of chronic disease. Intensified by suppressing other symptoms of the the respective chronic ailment by chemical drugs your body neglects. A dramatic vicious cycle with more than 250 million opioid prescriptions in the U.S. per year for pain relief, quadrupling since 1999 – without decreasing the cases of chronic pain at all. But 25,000 premature deaths per year instead. Not enough, opioids may even worsen chronic pain at short notice, and make it longer lasting, according to recent research at the University of Colorado in Boulder, CO. Thereby, it is a myth to believe that these deaths occur only in cases of ‘overdosing’ opioids, as seemingly in most recent case of pop star Prince, according to media reports. In fact, there is no scientific validation for what is an overdose of opioids, and what is not. Rather, opioids are basically dangerous for your health, whatever the dosage is. Period. Leaves us with the question if there are safe and natural alternatives. Yes, there are. E.g., herbs from the Rainforest like * Amor Seco * Anamu * Andiroba et al. For a comprehensive portfolio of more than 20 natural anti-pain remedies and modalities (for all kinds of pain), scientifically validated by most renowned U.S. and international medical schools and research institutions, see the chapter Pain in the recently published book Manage Cancer Treatment Side Effects Naturally.
