The Philosophy Behind

Maureen Blair from Stapleton, CO, asks:

Since we live close to a national park, I enjoy sitting back and relax all day long. Watching birds and other wildlife. I don’t think there is any better lifestyle on this planet granting longevity?

Dr. Fritz:

To sit back and relax in nature should certainly be one of our life’s priorities, in order to stay healthy and potentially become a centenarian. Can this virtue turn from longevity to premature death?

Yes, it can. If we ‘overdo’ it. Because prolonged sitting during the day on a regular basis (regardless if work or leisure) bears the unfavorable risk not only of becoming obese (with many negative consequences for our health) – even worse, it can lay the groundwork even for premature death.

In fact, according to research at the University of Sao Paulo in Brazil, more than 3 sedentary hours per day are responsible for almost 4% of all-cause deaths. Vice-versa, if we cut that down that prolonged sitting, accordingly, we can even increase our life expectancy.

At first glance, this may sound not all too exciting. Unfortunately yet, on an average, Americans are sitting up to 13 (!) hours per day (work & leisure). Increasing the risk - according to research at the Toronto Rehabilitation Institute-University Health Network (UNH) & the Institute for Clinical Evaluative Sciences in Canada – of those 3 front runners on the list of chronic illness in the US: heart disease, cancer, and diabetes. With 2 million premature deaths per year.

The Rationale

If you can’t reduce your sedentary work, take breaks as far as possible – no, not for a nap but for some kind of (aerobic) physical activity. And try to do some work in standing position, instead of sitting at least for 3 hours without interruption.

Personalized Natural Health Plan

Hopefully, you are not (yet) struck with heart disease, cancer, diabetes or any other chronic illness due to prolonged sitting (or any other reason).

However, to overcome any kind of illness (chronic or not) requires a distinctively personalized natural therapy strictly in line with your body's biological immune system and self-healing power. Based on latest scientific findings.
