Depression is one of the debilitating health issues of our ‘modern’ times,  effecting one out of six citizens once in a lifetime. there are basically 3 different types of clinical depression:

  • Major depression with seasonal pattern
          ( E.g., in winter time, lacking sunshine)
  • Major depression disorder with peripartum onset
           (Up to 6% of women may experience this episode during pregnancy or   
           first year after delivery)
  • Major depressive disorder with psychotic features
           (Inter alia, experiencing delusions or hallucinations)
  
Along with symptoms, depending on age, as follows:

  • Age 6-17
          Potential symptoms (inter alia):
          - Physical aches and pain
          - D
ifficulty to pay attention
          - Feeling sad or depressed for several hours
          - Feeling nervous/scared/anxious
          - Having a vision while awake
          - Hearing voices when no one is there
          -  Frequently feeling an urge to check on things
          - Having a vision while awake
          - Starting more projects or taking more risks
          - Frequently concerned about health or feeling unwell
          - Feeling a need to do something in a specific way to prevent anything bad from happening
          - Having less fun than normal
          - Having lots of energy with unusually little sleep
          - Avoiding doing things becaused they cause nervousness
          - Thinking of self or others doing something bad or having something bad happen
          - Becoming easily annoyed or irritated
          - Sleeping problems
 
            Additionally, it may be checked if the respective young person has been involved in risky
            behaviors such as


         - Smoking/snuffing/chewing tobacco
         - Drugs (like cannabis, cocaine, ecstasy)
         - Pharmaceutical medicine without prescriptio

Thoughts of suicide
         - Alcohol consumption   

  • Adults (18+)
         In this age bracket, symptoms usually include
         - Feeling frightened/panicked
         - Considering self-harm
         - Avoiding situations causing anxiety
         - Having sleep problems
         - Experience separation from self/memory/ body/surroundings
         - Feeling distance from others
         - Smoking/snuffing/chewing tobacco
         - Feeling others may hear own thoughts or vice versa
         - Much energy despite less sleep
         - Feeling irritated/angry/grouchy
         - Experience physical pain with seemingly no cause
         - Hearing things which others may not hear
  • Consuming more alcohol than usual
  • Feeling confused about self
  • Kick off projects and risks more than usual
  • Feeling low/hopeless
  • Experience lack of interest/pleasure in certain activities
  • Experience difficulty with orientation/memory
  • Feeling anxious/nervous/scared
  • Feeling a drive to complete mental/physical acts repeatedly
  • Have recurring images/urges/unpleasant thoughts
  • Feeling that others don’t take own illness serious
