SUPPORT YR IMMUNE SYSTEM WITH DIET?

4/25/2021

Our health and longevity depends on a strong and powerful immune system warding off infections. For best support, besides certain lifestyle factors, healthy diet plays a decisive role. With nutrients we better don’t miss. As basically indicated in this blog. Scientifically validated.  Read on to learn more about.

THE PHILOSOPHY BEHIND

As you have learned not only – but also – from our publications, the central  criterion responsible for our health and longevity is our immune system. As the complex power of biologic natural laws in our body. Scientifically validated in the U.S. and internationally. Inter alia, in Canada at
  • University of Manitoba (Winnipeg, MB)
  • Western University (London, ON)
  • McMaster University (Hamilton, ON)
  • Dalhousie University (Halifax, NS)

With 2 lines of defense: innate & adaptive immunity.

Thereby, the innate immunity is the first line of defense with its physical barriers like the skin, as well as chemical and cellular defenses, making no difference between foreign invaders.

If in this case, the innate immunity is not sufficiently effective, the adaptive immunity gets in charge. With its specific blood cells and proteins to fight the infection. And since it has got a kind of ‘memory’. it targets the same infection should it happen later again.

This implies that support of our immune system is vital. Provided, we support our immune system naturally. With diet in the forefront. Which diet?

DIET FOR IMMUNITY – GOOD & BAD – SCIENTIFICALLY VERIFIED

Western diet

Unfortunately, ‘Western’ diet, as we are overwhelmingly used to it, may still not be the answer. With its highly processed foods and beverages (including sodas), rich in refined carbohydrates and calories, with special reference to saturated fats, and added sugar/salt. Thus inducing inflammation and risk of (manifold chronic) disease.

According to international research at, inter alia, the University of Bonn in Bonn, Germany, and Federico II University Medical School of Naples in Naples, Italy.

With a negative impact also on our blood sugar, potentially resulting in diabetes, according to international research at
  • Leiden University Medical Center in Leiden, The Netherlands
  • Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research in Chandigarh, India
  • Korea Food Research Institute in Jeollabuk-do, South Korea

This is also raising inflammation proteins, including C-reactive protein (CRP), tumor necrosis-alpha (TNF-alpha) and interleukin-6 (IL-6). Based on international research at, inter alia,
  • I.M. Sechenov First Moscow Medical University in Moscow, Russia
  • University of Sao Paulo in Sao Paulo, Brazil
  • University of Southampton in Southampton, UK
  • California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo, California
           &
  • Luxembourg Institute of Health in Strassen, Luxembourg

Including autoimmune diseases like rheumatoid arthritis, according to research at, inter alia,
  • Universite Paris in Paris, France
  • Universite de Nice Sophia-Antipolis in Nice, France

As verified scientifically internationally also at, inter alia, the
  • University of Bonn in Bonn, Germany
  • University of Massachusetts Medical School in Worcester, Massachusetts
           &
  • Norwegian University of Science and Technology in Trondheim, Norway

Mediterranean diet

As indicated above, ultra-processed food high in calories, with special reference to saturated fats and excessively added sugar and salt, do not support our immune system – and health/longevity accordingly.

Other than whole, nutrient-dense foods like fruits, vegetables, legumes, seafood and nuts, with special reference to vitamins C&D and zinc. According to international research at, inter alia, the Federico II University Medical School of Naples in Naples, Italy, and Universidade de Sao Paulo in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

Based on this background, especially Mediterranean diet (although part of ‘Western’ hemisphere) has proven highly beneficial by lowering the risk of inflammation and (chronic) disease.

According to international medical research at, inter alia, the
  • University of Barcelona in Barcelona, Spain
  • Wake Forest School of Medicine in Winston-Salem, North Carolina
           &
  • Oregon State University in Corvallis, Oregon

With special reference to vital nutrients such as vitamins A/B-6/B-9/B-12/C/D as well as zinc, selenium, iron and high dietary fiber. Richly found in Mediterranean diet. Reducing the risk of infections.

Again, according to research at, inter alia, Oregon State University in Corvallis, Oregon.

Not only this. Mediterranean diet with special reference to fruits and vegetables are cutting down markers of chronic inflammation as IL-6, CRP and fibrinogen and strengthening the immune system, accordingly.

Based on research at, inter alia, Wageningen University and Research in Wageningen, The Netherlands.

Rounding up with healthy lifestyle including, inter alia,
  • physical activity
  • restful sleep
           &
  • stress reduction
