TEA - NATURE'S WONDER DRUG?

Heart disease, cancer, and diabetes, are topping the list of chronic illness in our modern society. Followed, inter alia, by cognitive decline. Unlike often reported myth that only sophisticated technical modalities can conquer this vicious cycle – if at all and ever – you may be surprised to learn that probably nature’s oldest daily beverage of man (besides water) can fulfill this job. Just read on.

Flora Nightingale from Pullman, WA, asks:

My husband and I, we are happily married. We are just drifting apart in terms of favorite beverage: he loves coffee, and I love tea. Any judgement by medical science, Doc?

THE PHILOSOPHY BEHIND

Dr. Fritz:

Besides coffee, tea is certainly one of the most preferred drinks worldwide. With more than 3.6 billion gallons consumed per year in the U.S. alone.

Yet, tea is not only flattering our taste buds, rather it is a very important nutrient. In fact, because of its high content of antioxidants liquidating free radicals, tea lowers the risk of the 3 most dangerous ailments in our modern society: heart disease and cardiovascular events in general, cancer and diabetes.

SCIENTIFIC VALIDATIONS

Not enough: according to latest research at the University of Singapore, tea can even reduce dramatically the risk of cognitive decline. With green tea especially supporting working memory.

In fact, almost 1,000 participants taking part in this study, aged 55+ (think about 55+ communities in the U.S….) cognitive decline dropped by no less but 86% based on regular tea consumption. With special reference to tea brewed from tea leaves – such as green and black tea, and colong tea. Based on tea components such as catechins, theaflavins, thearubigins and L-theanine.

Based on the anti-inflammatory and antioxidant power of tea, along with other bioactive properties protecting the brain from neurodegenerative damage.

This may especially be seen in the light that almost 50 million people worldwide are struck with dementia, and almost 8 million cases per year adding up to – estimate – 135 million in 2050.

And with an “effective pharmacological therapy remaining elusive and current prevention strategies far from satisfactory” according to lead investigator Dr. Feng Lei at the University of Singapore. Despite of high-quality drug trials. With daily tea consumption as a simple and inexpensive lifestyle measure.
