THE MOON - FRIEND OR FOE FOR HEALTH?

More and more of us have learned that our globe the Earth is an ecosystem whose existence is strictly based on natural laws. However, the Earth is not an independent celestial body in the solar system. Rather, it exists in a kind of ‘brotherhood’ with the sun, moon, and stars. Leaves us with the question, if and which way, our own existence on Earth – and health - is also dependent on the moon. Read on the learn more about.

THE PHILOSOPHY BEHIND

Our globe the Earth is an ecosystem strictly based on natural laws. With the benefit of giving our body the authority to support and regain our health with its natural immune system and self-healing power. A perfect cycle of nature.

However, our Earth is not a single unit in outer space. Rather, it is part of the solar system in brotherhood with the sun, stars, planets – and the moon.
Just take the latter – the moon. As an astronomical body it is orbiting our Earth as our permanent natural satellite. By doing so, and with the gravitational attraction between both – Earth and moon – rising and falling of tides is one of the natural consequences.

Leaves us with the question if this astronomical fact is – or is not - good for our physical and/or mental health? Independent of the fact that man set foot on the moon 50 years ago with spacecraft Apollo 11, and independent of the fact that NASA is planning another lunar landing in 2024.

HEALTH-RELATED IMPACT OF THE MOON – SCIENTIFICALLY VALIDATED

Although moon has quite an impact on our health in some respect, let’s focus on 3 issues in brief.

Sleep Rhythm

Based on research at, inter alia, Semmelweis University in Hungary’s capital Budapest and the University of Basel in Basel, Switzerland, ‘full moon’ may well affect a person’s quality of sleep waking up by bright moonlight. Before and immediately after full moon study participants needed 5 minutes longer to fall asleep and not only this, the sleep duration was some 20 minutes shorter. Although the participants slept in completely dark rooms.

This impaired sleep rhythm is especially problematic, as sound sleep is vital for our health in manifold ways.

Mental Impact

According to studies at, inter alia, the University of Newcastle in Newcastle, UK, especially full moon may make people more aggressive. With the consequence of higher criminality rates in times of full moon.

Also admissions to psychiatric facilities were noted related to full moon. In fact, 23% of admissions these facilities happened in times of full moon.

Menstrual Moon Cycles?

Based on research at, inter alia, the Polish Academy of Sciences in Wrodaw, Poland, and the Guru Nanak Institute of Dental Sciences and Research in Calcutta, India, there may be a kind of synchronicity between moon phases and female menstruation.

With special reference to maximizing chances of becoming pregnant during certain moon phases by influencing certain fertility windows.

The philosophy behind of this synchronization is based on the fact that on one side, a menstrual cycle takes 28 days, and on the other, a moon cycle lasts between 27 days plus 7 hours plus 43 minutes circling completely around the Earth, and 29.5 days for a phase cycle.

Especially the above mentioned study at Guru Nanak Institute of Dental Sciences and Research in Calcutta, India, came to the conclusion that if the ovulation phase is coinciding with full moon while getting pregnant at that time, chances are that birth is finally given to male babies. Vice-versa, conceiving before full moon makes it realistic to give birth to female babies.

IN A NUTSHELL

More and more of us have learned that our globe the Earth is an ecosystem whose existence is strictly based on natural laws. However, The Earth is not an independent celestial body in the universe. Rather, it exists in a kind of ‘brotherhood’ with the sun and the moon. Leaves us with the question, if and which way, our own existence on Earth – and health - is also dependent on the moon. This blog tries to give an answer, scientifically validated.

We may finally appreciate the fact that the moon has been praised in no less but 42 verses of the Holy Bible. Just pick one from Psalm 148:3: "Praise Him, sun and moon, Praise Him, all stars of light."
